It is one of the most fascinating buildings in Istanbul. It is the only mosque in the world with 6 minarets. Only sultans and their families could build mosques with multiple minarets. Previously, there was a mosque in Mecca with 6 minarets. When this was done, the 7th minaret was added to the mosque in Mecca by Ahmet I.
Sultanahmet Mosque was built by Ahmet I in 1606/ 1616 on the historical peninsula in Istanbul, opposite Hagia Sophia, to architect Sedefkar Mehmet Aga. Architect Mehmet Aga was the chief architect of the palace, which was raised by Mimar Sinan.
1. Ahmet was 14 years old when he ascended the throne as the 14th Ottoman sultan and died 14 years later at the age of 28. This mosque made a lot of mention of its name with the tiles inside it. It has an inner light that is not in any shrine. There is a very large complex in the mosque. Only the mausoleum and madrasah remained from the complex buildings that disappeared over time. 1.Ahmet, his wife Kösem Sultan, sons 4.Murat and Osman the Younger, as well as many relatives are in the shrine. To the north of the mosque is the Hünkar Pavilion, where the sultan spends pre-prayer time. 1. Ahmet has taken an important place in history by removing the right of sultans to kill their brothers. According to his law, the oldest of the dynasty began to ascend to the throne, and an inhumane act such as brotherly murder came to an end. 1. Ahmet built this mosque not with the spoils of war, but with the money taken from the treasury of the Ottoman Empire. Mosques used to be built with war loot all the time. Sultanahmet Mosque with a unique Ottoman architectural texture; it is visited by thousands of tourists every year.
